6 Things You Must Quit Doing Today to Be More Successful

Sometimes quitting is necessary to overall success. Here’s how to know when you should throw in the towel. Most of us grew up hearing the mantra “Don’t be a quitter,” and we’ve internalized it to the point where we feel guilty even if we don’t finish a book that’s boring us to death. Our parents weren’t entirely wrong in saying that persistence is necessary for success, but sometimes quitting is the most effective course of action. Whether it’s a failed project, a thankless job, or a doomed relationship, quitting can be a virtue. As it turns out, some of us are really good at knowing when to quit, while others have a hard time getting “unstuck.” Research from the University of Rochester found that people are motivated by either “approach goals” or “avoidance goals.” Those who fall into the approach camp are motivated by challenges and don’t waste time trying to solve problems that simply don’t have a feasible solution. In other words, they know when to quit. People motiva...

5 Things To Always Keep Secret

It is not advisable to communicate the details of your life to everyone – because sometimes a listening ear becomes a running mouth. It is better to have your personal information kept to yourself rather than sharing it with everyone as discussing such issues most times usually have a disappointing result. Here are five (5) important things that you need to keep personal and do as much as possible not to share these secrets. Your Innermost Thoughts What you think about certain topics should be your believe and not what you try to inculcate into others. For instance, your thought about some spirituality issues, life or death would bring so much reactions of diverse kinds when you choose to make them a topic for discussion. Learn to understand that your thoughts are your interpretation and not the objective truth or you may likely get into some ill outcomes on such arguments. Your Philanthropy Giving a helping hand to a person or any other form of charitable work is very good and d...

5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Start Looking For Love

“Don’t rush into any kind of relationship. Work on yourself. Feel yourself, experience yourself and love yourself. Do this first and you will soon attract that special loving other.” ~Russ Von Hoelscher Being in love is awesome. Sharing your life with someone special who gets you, adores you, and loves you for who you are is amazing. Sometimes, though, we need to work on ourselves before we are ready to attract a true love like that. Rather than jumping into yet another romantic adventure without thinking, I encourage you to answer these few questions. I know, at the time of my love search, that they would have served me well. Instead, I spent ten years dating every jerk under the sun, getting my heart broken on more than a few occasions, and wasting tons of time. I did a lot of growing and learning too, but if you can avoid pain, why not? In the end, it was all worth it, but if you want to speed up the process and find the best way to the right person, then I believe these questions ...

The 6 Most Attractive Behaviors (And How to Have Them)

“When you have confidence, that’s what becomes attractive to other people and makes them want to work with you and spend time with you.” – Emmanuelle Chriqui Being attractive is more than just about looks – after all, those are subjective, and subject to change at the whim of the latest trends of society. Attraction also greatly depends on how you act, and the types of behaviors you exhibit day to day when interacting with people. Someone can just as easily fall madly in love with your personality as they do the way you look. After all, you are a whole person, made up of traits and flaws that round you out to be a human being. There are a number of behaviors that are attractive in a person, whether you are a man or a woman. Learning how to harness these types of behaviors can make you both more attractive, as well as an all-around more positive and happier person. 6 OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE BEHAVIORS AND HOW TO HAVE THEM 1. GOOD LISTENERS People love to feel heard and understood. Be...

Do You Talk To Yourself? Here’s Why It Might Mean You’re A Genius

The next time you talk to yourself, you should tell yourself, “It’s okay, this just means that I’m a genius!” When we talk to ourselves, we sometimes wonder if we are going crazy, but the truth is that our brains are working in wonderful ways by using speech to help us process information. Do You Talk to Yourself? Here’s Why It Might Mean You’re A Genius   Talking to Yourself Helps Memory A study in the The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology found that self-directed speech can help people who are trying to find a specific object in a group of other items. Saying aloud the name of the item that they are searching for helped participants to find the object more accurately than if they did not talk to themselves. The implications of this research are that talking to yourself helps you process visual information better. Think about chess players who have to remember the positions of the pieces on the board and plan for the possible future strategies of their opponent a...

Science Says These Five Things Prove You're Smart

Intelligence, or IQ, isn’t what you know, but rather the pace at which you acquire new information. Longitudinal studies have shown that IQ is fixed at an early age, so you’re stuck with what you’ve got. While IQ is far from being the only thing that determines success in life—research shows that it isn’t even the most important factor—a high IQ still isn’t a bad thing to have. In fact, I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t mind having one. “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.” -Albert Einstein Most of us move through life never knowing exactly how smart we are. IQ is a difficult thing to measure, and unless you’re willing to fork over several hundred dollars to a trained professional, you’ll never know for certain what your IQ is. New research provides some interesting clues linking early life experiences to, among other things, high intelligence. If any of the following apply to you, you just might have a high IQ. 1. You’re anxious....

Some Things You Just Can't Hide

It's not always about detecting deception! At the height of the Cold War, an ex-Army soldier came under investigation for espionage. During lengthy interviews by FBI agents, he willingly implicated himself but refused to name others involved.  For days, investigators went round and round with him, and yet the soldier would not reveal his still-active accomplices. At the next meeting, the soldier was presented with thirty-two 3 x 5 cards, each containing the name of a fellow soldier who had access to the compromised secrets, but were not thus far implicated. Each card was momentarily shown to the soldier for any comments he was willing to make regarding these individuals. As the soldier viewed each card and remarked, the investigating agent was able to observe the orbits of the eyes, as well as pupil changes at close proximity.  At the conclusion, the FBI agent thanked the soldier and left. Two days later, the agent returned to the interview carrying...
